‘Tis the season for people to catch the flu or a cold or some other bug. We take extra precautions and wash our hands longer and more frequently - we cover our mouths tighter when we sneeze or cough- we use paper towels to touch things in the public restrooms - we avoid touching the railings on the escalator or staircase…you get the picture, don’t you? There are contagious people everywhere and you can catch all sorts of distressing things from them. Not everything you catch is bad though. The word contagious usually carries a negative connotation, but it doesn’t have to. There are many things that would make our lives better if we could ‘catch them’ – a smile, gratitude, a laugh, offering to help, keeping your word, etc. Often people walk around not realizing that they are contagious – they have no clue what people are catching from them.
